Anti-Spam Solution: Part 2
Monday 16th June 2008We have now implemented stage two of our anti-spam solution - greylisting. We hope this will significantly reduce the amount of spam our users receive, however until the results are proven this should be considered a trial.
Greylisting essentially works by refusing to accept email the first time delivery is attempted. Servers will automatically retry the delivery after a short wait, at which time the message will be accepted and delivered to your inbox. This is effective against spammers as the majority of them do not attempt to retry delivery of failed messages.
Due to the way in which greylisting works, users will find that there is now a delay on most incoming email. We understand this may inconvenience you, but email is not designed to be instantaneous, and the delay will generally be minimal - although the exact time depends on the settings of the sender's email provider. People who frequently email you will eventually become exempt from this filter as they reach a whitelisting threshold. Internal emails (those between users on the same domain) are unaffected.
Please contact us if you have any problems as a result of this new feature.
